The US Firm's Autonomous Vehicles Planned for London Roads Next Year.
American enterprise Waymo has announced that its autonomous vehicles will be available for hire on London's thoroughfares starting next year.
London Becomes Leading European City for Autonomous Ride-Hailing.
London will be established as the first European city to host an autonomous taxi service, similar to those already familiar in multiple US cities and four other American cities using Waymo's advanced technology.
First Operations to Start with Safety Drivers.
Waymo announced that its vehicles are now en route to London and will begin driving on the capital's public roads in the coming weeks with trained human specialists in control.
Waymo – initially created as a spin-off from Google's self-driving car initiative and part of the larger corporate umbrella – indicated it would expand services and collaborate with the UK transport authorities and Transport for London to acquire the essential permissions to provide fully autonomous services by 2026.
Increasing Presence in Self-Driving Transport In London.
Additional firms, such as Uber and the UK-based technology firm Wayve, have also revealed their own strategies to trial driverless vehicles in the city next year.
This comes after the government officials announcing it would accelerate guidelines enabling public testing to occur before laws enabling self-driving vehicles passes in full.

Complete Introduction Projected After New Legislation Comes into Force.
A more extensive deployment of autonomous cabs is projected in the UK after the related legislation comes completely into force in late 2027.

Waymo presently has links to the UK after opening its pioneering European research base in Oxford in 2019.
The company is furthermore introducing operations in Tokyo using JLR eco-friendly cars, marking its sole additional existing venture outside the United States.
“We've demonstrated how to effectively grow fully autonomous ride-hailing, and we look forward to bring the positive impacts of our technology to the UK,” remarked Waymo's co-chief executive, noting that the system was “enhancing transport security and travel more accessible”.

Waymo introduced its driverless taxis in 2020 and now claims it has served in excess of ten million passengers in the United States.
Despite some concerning occurrences, Waymo stated that data revealed that vehicles controlled by humans were involved in incidents that injured walkers significantly more frequently than its autonomous vehicles.
